I went to the Toronto Mountain Equipment Coop store on King St. West last week and picked up a MEC Walkabout travel pack for $135 plus taxes.
Its an awesome pack with lots of funky features.. like a zip off detachable day pack, a luggage-belt-friendly strap cover for the back, lots of handles and lots of compartments. The string across the pack isn't white, its the reflection from the flash.
Its a full 70L but hopefully I won't use the whole thing to capacity. Now all I need are some combo locks and a security cable for it and I'm set.
***** bought a pack too, but his isn't as nice as mine.
By the way, the Chicken Chimichangas at Bandido's across the street were really good... but friggen expensive.

Well, I guess that helps me decide between proper carry-on luggage and a backpack. Except in my case, a 45L pack also fits in carry-on... Great. I'll have to wait for your bloody enormous backpack at Gatwick. Twat. ;p
Are you trying to compensate through you back pack?
